A-2 Workshop | A-2 dance | C-1 dance | C-2 dance | C-3A dance

This was Barry's first time calling for Trailblazers and the feedback I got from dancers at all sessions was quite positive.

Friday C-3A Dance

Barry presented an interesting mix of calls and concepts from unusual positions:

(1) from an eight chain thru -- Drift Apart

(2) from right-hand twin diamonds -- Centers Start 1/4 Mix

(3) from a static square -- Girls Finally Stable, Heads Start Spin The Pulley

(4) from a tidal inverted line -- Spin Chain The Line Twice

(5) from a tidal double pass thru column -- Tandem Single Polly Wolly

(6) from outfacing lines -- Once Removed Finish Travel Thru

(7) from parallel left-hand ocean waves -- 3/4 Crazy Stack The Line

(8) from a right-hand tidal wave with alternating sexes starting with girls on the end -- Once Removed Own The Girls, 3/4 Wheel The Ocean By 1/4 Wheel The Ocean

(9) from a magic 'O' -- Phantom Columns Breaker 1

(10) from left-handed parallelogram columns with #3 & #4 dancers in the center box -- Parallelogram Polly Wolly.

Two sequences proved to be particularly challenging:

(1) from sashayed outfacing parallelogram line with right-hand couple in the center box -- Parallelogram Stretch Shakedown; Parallelogram Centers Slide Thru; Parallelogram Spin The Pulley; Initially Triple Lines, Tag Back To A Wave

(2) from a tidal column with all dancers facing in (from one end: #1 girl. #4 girl, #4 boy, #3 boy) -- Once Removed Single Polly Wolly (yields a completed double pass thru);  Team Up & Roll; Trade The Deucey; Split Phantom Lines Switch To A Diamond; just the Center 4, Boys Start Patch The Girls; Right & Left Grand.

Saturday A-2 Workshop

Barry concentrated on workshopping the Mirror Concept where all references to "right/left", "belle/beau", "clockwise/counterclockwise" are replaced by the counterpart term within the definition of the call and all underlying definitions.  Although this concept is officially at the C-3 level, there are two terms commonly used at the lower levels as a synonym for this concept.

Some calls use "Left" as the synonym:

(1) from a couple -- Left  (Partner) Hinge

(2) from a couple -- Left Single Wheel

(3) from facing dancers -- Left Slide Thru

(4) from facing opposite-sex dancers -- Left Box The Gnat

(5) from facing couples -- Left Fan The Top

(6) from outfacing lines -- Left Linear Cycle

(7) from various parallel lines -- Left Tag The Line

(8) from outfacing lines, parallel left-hand two-faced lines or parallel right-hand waves -- Left Turn & Deal

(9) from outfacing lines -- Left Wheel & Deal

(10) from parallel 3-and-1 lines -- Left Cycle & Wheel

(11) from an eight chain thru -- Left Pass & Roll

(12) from a completed double pass thru -- Track 2

(13) from a left-hand tidal line -- As Couples Left Turn & Deal

Other calls use "Reverse" as the synonym:

(1) from a couple -- Reverse Wheel Around

(2) from facing dancers -- Reverse Single Circle To A Wave

(3) from facing couples -- Reverse Recycle

(4) from facing couples -- Reverse Dixie Style To A Wave

(5) from a left-handed two-faced line -- Chain Down The Line

Additional calls used at the workshop caused problems for some dancers:

(1) from a tidal line -- As Couples Bend The Line

(2) from a tidal line -- As Couples Cast Off 3/4

(3) from a facing-diamond -- Fan The Top

Saturday A-2 dance

Barry continued with the "Mirror" theme using many of the calls from the workshop and adding a few more:

(1) from a right-hand ocean wave -- Left 1/2 Tag The Line and Left 3/4 Tag The Line

(2) from facing couples -- Left & Right Through (Left Right & Left Thru)

(3) from a sashayed eight chain thru -- Left Double Star Thru

(4) from a couple -- Reverse Rollaway

A few other calls gave some dancers problems:

(1) from a left-hand 1/4 tag --  Chain Reaction

(2) from a 3/4 tag -- Horseshoe Turn

Sunday C-1 dance

This was a good test for our C-1 dancers to determine their proficiency with the calls and concepts from unusual positions:

(1) from outfacing lines -- As Couples Vertical 3/4 Tag The Line

(2) from parallel 3-and-1 lines with the ends facing in and the centers holding right hands -- Coordinate

(3) from a box with all dancers t-boned to their adjacent dancers with two diagonally opposite dancers in the box facing in and the other two facing out -- Peel The Top

(4) from an "I" consisting of a right-hand ocean wave between two infacing couples -- Linear Action

(5) from an "I" consisting of a right-hand ocean wave between two left-hand mini waves -- All 8 Recycle & Roll

(6) from parallel inverted lines with same sex partners -- Same-Sex Distorted Waves Swing Thru

(7) from parallel ocean waves -- Stretch Trail Off

(8) from a tidal line -- Concentric Bend The Line

(9) from standard C-1 phantom ocean waves consisting of two right-hand mini-waves and two left-hand mini-waves -- Phantom Outroll Circulate

(10) from blocks with with all dancers facing out of their blocks -- In Blocks Vertical 1/2 Tag

(11) from blocks with all the dancers facing into their blocks -- In Blocks Circle By 1/4 By 1/4

(12) from infacing lines -- Triple Box Cross & Turn

(13) from magic columns -- Triple Box Split Recycle

(14) from a completed double pass thru --Triple Box Vertical Tagback To A Wave

(15) from triple boxes consisting of two ocean waves with the outfacing end of each wave in the center box -- Triple Box Cross Your Neighbor

Sunday C-2 Dance

Barry presented a good mix of calls and concepts to help our dancers on solidifying their skills.  These calls caused problems for some dancers:

(1) from parallel inverted lines with infacing ends --Stretch Single Cross & Wheel

(2) from an hourglass with the very centers and all the points having the same hand toward the center -- Tandem-Based Triangles Work Solid, All Drop Out

(3) from a double pass thru -- Start with [more descriptive wording: "Replace the first part with"] Zip Code 2, Load The Boat

(4) from a formation formed from parallel left-hand columns and having the centers Counter Rotate -- Dodge Shazam; Centers Go As You Are, Zip Code 3, new centers Linear Cycle.
