Several calls Anne used certainly challenged many of the dancers. Some of these were Catch Peel the Top 3 from right-hand ocean waves, Single Ferris Wheel from columns, and Breaker Strip the Diamond. Other interesting call she used were Initially As Couples Scoot & Counter from 1/4 line formation, Split Phantom Right-Hand Waves Left Swing the Fractions, and Own the Centers Split Grand Chain Eight by Cut the Diamond from lines with the centers facing in. Top | A-2 Workshop & Dance | C-1 & C-2 Dances | C-3A Dance At the A-2 workshop Anne workshopped Crossover Circulate from 3-and-1 lines and 2/3 Mini Busy. She also taught Step & Fold. She spent the most time workshopping Belles and Beaus. It was particularly interesting to watch the startled reactions of the higher-level dancers who came to help at the evening session when Anne first used the same Belle/Beau calls she had used in the workshop. Top | A-2 Workshop & Dance | C-1 & C-2 Dances | C-3A Dance Anne called challenging C-1 and C-2 sessions. Some of the calls at C-1 that presented problems for the dancers were Motivate from two-faced lines, Block Flutter Wheel, Percolate from various formations, and All Eight Counter Rotate & Roll from a completed double pass thru formation. Left Rotary Spin caused problems at both C-1 and C-2. The hard part was the Left Courtesy Turn. Because of a scheduling mix-up, Anne
had to leave the C-2 session half an hour early to get to the airport on
time. She got there with only ten minutes to spare. I was asked
to fill in to do the last C-2 tip and the last C-3A star tip. Although
I have a reputation among some dancers for creating material that is too
hard for most people to dance, the dancers did quite well with the material
and seemed to enjoy it.
NOTE: The only weekend in Southern California for Challenge dancers of all levels that features several nationally-known Challenge callers is the PACE Extravaganza. This is the perfect place for those C-1 and C-2 dancers who want more dances at their level. If you are fairly new at these levels, do not dismiss this weekend as one that will be too hard for you. This is a great way to get a lot of quality floor time and the callers will work with you to help maximize your success. Special rates are still available for both the dance and the hotel.
