CJ Smith

CJ grew up in New England and met Rob French while pursuing an
engineering degree at MIT.  After a stint in the Army Signal Corps, CJ moved to California in 1991 and began beginner classes with John Sybalsky.  Rob's interest in calling spurred CJ to finish learning Plus quickly so that she could attend a callers' school taught by Bill Davis and Kip Garvey in early 1992.  She called her first dance on Mother's Day 1992.  A 2-week "blitz" course in Advanced and another self-taught "blitz" moved CJ and Rob through C1 so they would be ready for a regular C2 class.  They had plenty of "phantom" help along the way.  They learned to call each new level as they learned to dance it.  The rest is history.  CJ's first higher level dance was at the PACE Extravaganza in 1994.  Today she and Rob call worldwide at levels through C4.

CJ and Rob live in Sunnyvale, California, where she is currently employed as an embedded systems engineer at a startup company called Stretch.  She enjoys traveling, backpacking, and learning new languages.  People she encounters on travels are impressed with her ability to carry on basic conversations in their local tongue.  Her three cats, however, must stay home while she is away.
